Pipe Up is a pair of playground tubes that connect two points in the world by transmitting audio. The point of this system is to encourage conversation between the people of each location.
In most cases, the locations of each pipe will be either socially opposite or in places that otherwise do not usually have a dialog. The results of this ongoing experiment will be posted here.
The pipe's physical structure is made up of a wood palette housing surrounded by plywood. Wood chips are used to give the floor of the structure the same appearance as a playground surface. The pipes themselves are made out of PVC with metallic paint.
Communication between the pipes is made possible by using speakers and microphones connected to Raspberry Pi computers that are running Mumble, an open source audio calling program similar to Skype.
Day 56
Someone blew out the speakers by blowing an airhorn into the pipe. Should have seen that coming.
Day 58
The most said words so far are "blah blah blah." This somehow does not come as a surprise.

of the conversation happening between the two pipes.

great for a pipe? Send me a message.
